A Revealing Quote

"You can't make Socialists out of individualists -- children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society which is coming, where everyone is interdependent." --- John Dewey.
Dewey is considered one of the founders of the public school system. For Dewey, it was vitally important that education not be the teaching of mere facts. His one attempt to put his beliefs into practice -- the Lincoln School in Manhattan -- failed miserably in a very short time. His ideas were essentially scrapped during the Cold War, when the dominant concern in education was creating and sustaining scientists for defense purposes. In the post-Cold War period, however, "progressive" education has made a comeback -- with a vengeance. There is a reason liberals were so hot to make an issue out of one sentence in chapter five of Ann Coulter's book. They had no answers for any of the other chapters. It was a diversionary tactic. If you can get your hands on Godless: The Church of Liberalism, do so as quickly as possible. The truth about our educational system can be found in chapter six.
