On A Personal Note...

For the first time in five years, Independence Day falls on one of my nights off. Good! I have no intention of going anywhere near DC after I get off work this morning. At nightfall, I-395 becomes a parking lot -- literally -- with people parking right in the middle of the highway to watch the fireworks. The police thoughtfully keep two lanes open for traffic. This is also the first 4th that I have cats. I've noticed them getting antsy as the date approaches. The few firecrackers going off in the neighborhood have caused Guenevere to abandon her nest on the couch below the window. I have a feeling I'll be sleeping tonight covered in cats, like when a thunderstorm rolls through. I'm not planning anything special. I live 845 miles from family. I guess I'll just watch any marathons that might be playing (except for Sci Fi's unending Twilight Zone marathon). TCM is showing Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and Sergeant York. That's my 4th.

Have a burger for me.

How about a steak?

Happy Independence Day, LR.

We have much to celebrate, and you are one of the most real and true patriots that I have ever encountered.

Have a great day!

Enjoy your break (if the cats let you).

This is the first 4th in a new house. It's on top of a hill in the 'burbs of Kansas City. From my front porch we can watch the displays of at least 5 different nearby towns, a minor league ball park and a NASCAR race track. This is great, no traffic, no bugs, no idiots (well maybe one if I count myself).
