My New Toy

I got my new Garmin GPS receiver last night. All I can say is thank-you, thief! This thing is incredible! Like my old unit, it shows maps, gives turn-by-turn driving instructions, has a compass, clock, speedometer, calendar, odometer, etc. But unlike my old unit, it is a trip computer, XM radio, receives traffic reports and will plot routes around traffic jams, receives weather reports and will show weather conditions on the route, gives ground-level road views with arrows and plays MP3s, and talking books. I haven't read all of the user's manual yet, so I don't know if it's also a pine-scented air freshener.

I might have to drive to California and back just to test all its features. Or maybe I'll move into my car.

I'll be glad to test it for you! I have to make a trip from Central Texas to Phoenix, Az in August to install my daughter into college. Now isn't that a grand idea? No? I didn't think so. :(

I'm jealous my Magellan can't do half that stuff.

Rick, I haven't had to go into the woods since I joined the Air Force. I've become accustomed to flush toilets.

Wow, Tonto, a girl who loves gadgets. Wish I'd met you 35 years ago, when you were, uh, negative two years old.

Gayle, with a girl in college, you'll be lucky to afford a Boy Scout compass. Only illegal aliens pay in-state tuition at any college they want. Hint: Drive west until the sun dries up your dashboard like cracking parchment paper.

Forget the air freshener---does it wash dishes? Take care of 5 loads of laundry in a day? Able to leap tall buildings? Got to get me one of those.

Love your blog. I'm a huge Ann Coulter fan myself. She's my hero.

Thanks for reminding me. June is laundry month. As for washing dishes, I don't wash so much as a spoon. I save it up for my dishwasher.
