I'm In the Dog House

I'm sitting waaay in the back corner of the newsroom tonight at the South Asia desk. I did some bad things. First, I wore the above t-shirt to work -- with a slight modification. I put tape over "Kenny" and penned in "Al-Zarqawi." How could I think that the death of another "human being" is funny? Bad thing two: I picked up my mail on the way to work and opened the box at my desk to reveal Ann Coulter's new book. You'd have thought I was radioactive. I offered to take off the dust jacket while I read it. Bad thing three: One of the editors was grousing that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have cost 400 billion dollars. I piped up and said, "That's $8,000 for every person liberated. Brown people aren't worth that much!" (No, I'm not that good at math, I'd figured it out earlier.) That's as close as I've ever come to seeing someone's head explode. His ears turned so red, he looked like a school bus, picking up passengers. And here I am. I'm going to put a huge veggie platter on the snack table later. I wonder if they'll refuse free food. I mean, they have their principles.

UPDATE: Crunch, crunch, crunch. They sound like rabbits.

How do you manage to work with those folks every day and maintain your sanity?

Every two weeks, I gaze at my pay statement.

Also, I do everything I can to stay on the overnight shift. If you think these people are bad, you should see the mental ward this room turns into on days.

When someone asks me why I stay on the third shift, I just reply, "It's the cornerstone of my AA program -- A-hole Avoidance."
