No Mas, No Grass
Just when you thought there was no way Mexico could be more screwed up, El Presidente Vicente Fox found a way to screw it up further. He was going to sign a bill legalizing small amounts of "recreational drugs" (the oxymoron of the century). But at the last minute, he backed off. It seems that even countries like the Netherlands, which treats drug abuse as a medical, rather than a police issue, called him to tell him how insane that would be. I imagine Mexican authorities at every level down to the cop on the beat are breathing a huge sigh of relief today because their lucrative business of accepting bribes from drug dealers won't be affected. So, officially, dealing drugs in Mexico will remain illegal, while unofficially, (wink wink) it's ooooookay -- kinda like our immigration laws.
