From what I understand, Mayra immigrated here four years ago from Mexico. Legal? Illegal? Dunno. Not relevant. She wants to go on to become a nurse. But because of California's bilingual school system, she hasn't been forced to learn English. First of all, how's she going to train to be a nurse if she can't speak English? Would you want her nursing you? This is just another example of how the left actually keeps people down by not insisting that they learn the language of their adopted country. The best this girl will do is to become a motel maid -- unless she can find a liberal judge who will grant her a nursing license. Secondly, this is another example of a single judge appointing himself dictator of a state. He wasn't citing precedent, he wasn't citing law. In his ruling, he was citing only his own opinion. Why does California even have a governor or a legislature or elections? Why not just appoint one liberal judge to be the black-robed dictator of the state? Imagine all the taxpayer money that would be saved if they didn't have to pay all those bureaucrats?SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Despite failing California's high school exit exam, senior Mayra Ibanez may get a chance to start training next year to become a medical assistant after a judge suspended the test. Superior Court Judge Robert Freedman's ruling Friday that the exam is discriminatory could allow Ibanez and thousands of other students who failed it to get their diplomas anyway. Freedman also denied the state's request for a stay pending an appeal.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell said the state would immediately appeal the decision, which he said creates "chaos" for more than 1,100 high schools that are completing graduation preparations.
"How are these students and these schools to plan for their futures?" he asked.
