Who Do We Trust?

First I see this on the wires. Probably a drunk or someone with medical problems runs into a group of people and keeps on driving.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- A sport utility vehicle raced through a popular gathering spot at the University of North Carolina on Friday, clipping and scattering startled bystanders before it sped away, authorities said.

The crash happened in front of Lenoir Hall in an area known as The Pit, which does not have an easy access point for vehicles. Five students and a visiting scholar were taken to UNC Hospitals with minor injuries, hospital spokesman Tom Hughes said.

Then I see this:

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities planned to charge former University of North Carolina student with attempted murder after he allegedly drove a sport utility vehicle through a popular gathering spot on campus Friday, clipping and scattering startled bystanders. The FBI joined the case because Taheri-azar, a native of Iran, "allegedly made statements that he acted to avenge the American treatment of Muslims," said agent Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman in Washington. "The ongoing investigation will work to confirm this."

What is it about this 7th century religion that makes 21st century people go nuts? In the American Indian culture, someone like Muhammad would have been treated like a crazy uncle at Thanksgiving dinner -- respected but not taken seriously. Yet, in the Arab culture, a guy who fell down with epileptic fits and then claimed to receive messages from God worked his way up from sheep herder to slave trader and bandit, to warlord and prophet of God. And his "religion of peace" has now infected more than a billion people. If just one percent of Muslims are capable of violent acts, that's about 13 million potential murderers. Too high a number for you? Let's do one-tenth of one percent. One million, 300 thousand. So, who will attack next? And why do liberals shout racism if those obvious suspicions occur to us? Racial profiling? First, Islam is a religion, not a race. The majority of Muslims aren't Arabs. Second, if there is a man-eating tiger threatening a village, you don't go out hunting for bear.
