This Day in Republican History 3/01/06

March 1, 1875 Civil Rights Act of 1875, guaranteeing access to public accommodations without regard to race, signed by Republican President U.S. Grant; passed with 92% Republican support over 100% Democrat opposition The Civil Rights Act (1875) was introduced to Congress by Charles Sumner and Benjamin Butler in 1870 but did not become law until 1st March, 1875. It promised that all persons, regardless of race, color, or previous condition, was entitled to full and equal employment of accommodation in "inns, public conveyances on land or water, theaters, and other places of public amusement." In 1883 a Democratic Supreme Court declared the act as unconstitutional and asserted that Congress did not have the power to regulate the conduct and transactions of individuals.

They really said, "Congress did not have the power to regulate the conduct and transactions of individuals"?

That's a joke, right?

If it is unconstitutional for Congress to make laws, (That's what it is) then the entire Constitution is unconstitutional.

It just goes to show that when Democrats get into power, their corruption knows no bounds. Look at how they perverted the RICCO laws for 20 years to prevent demonstrations outside abortion "clinics." That just got reversed yesterday.
