Canadians Aren't Like Us

They say "aboot" and they make you mind your P's and Q's.

TORONTO (AP) -- Two white supremacists were spreading hatred when they posted highly offensive material on their Web sites about black and Jewish people and ordered to pay penalties, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal ruled Friday.

In what is believed to be the first time a Canadian Internet Web-hosting service has been found liable for hate messages, the ruling ordered the men to cease their hate-mongering, levied penalties totaling C$13,000 (US$11,000; euro9,230) and awarded the complainant C$5,000 (US$4,325; euro3,630).

Bernie Farber, the CEO of the Canadian Jewish Congress, was ecstatic with the ruling. "It makes a huge and important statement," said Farber. "It shows the seriousness with which the tribunal viewed this matter."

It also shows that socialism is never just about economics.
