Any Port in A Storm

Once again, the Democrats have created a perfect storm, where only a wind of good fortune blows. And they've dragged along some less than steady Republicans. According to the Dems, Arabs can't be trusted to invest money in our port operations. Well, following that logic, Arabs can't be trusted to attend our universities, to enter the country as tourists, to immigrate or to be on our soil for any reason at all. Let's deport every single one of them. Or, to follow Democratic icon FDR's policy, let's build detention camps and herd them all behind barbed wire -- even if they're second or third generation Arab-American citizens. And let's confiscate all their assets for redistribution to REAL Americans. This would not be a far cry for the Democrats, who have been the primary source of racism in our country since their party's inception. The Democrats have demanded, and Dubai has agreed to a 45-day delay in the deal to inform our Congress and our citizens all about this transaction. Fine. Let's inform them. The White House should set up four-hour briefings every day for the next 45 days. Brief Congressmen and the press until port information is running out of their ears. Maybe the briefings could even be televised, interrupting network prime time programming. "American Idol will not be seen tonight, because Democrats think the American people are too stupid to understand international commerce." And anyone who does not view every briefing for the full four hours and still opposes the deal can be accused of being a left-wing, racist agitator. That is not to say that Democrats aren't already left-wing, racist agitators, but they hate people saying it. Problem solved.

Thanks for posting on this. I really needed someone to explain this to me. So you think it is o.k. that the UAE were to be in charge of the ports? In the end it will not make a difference?

If ever we had an enemy in the world, it is China. They are constantly stealing our technology and beefing up their military. They are attempting to undermine our influence across the Pacific. During the Clinton administration, coolies were hauling atomic secrets out of New Mexico on their backs. Yet, they run the port at Long Beach.

It was 10 years ago that Johnny Chung gave $366,000 to the DNC. And let's not forget the Chinese General who got caught trying to contribute $50,000 to Clinton's reelection campaign. Just a year before that, in 1995, a Cosco ship, the Empress Phoenix, was boarded by Customs agents, who seized a cargo of 2,000 AK-47 assault rifles -- destined for Los Angeles street gangs. Cosco is a subsidiary of the Chinese army. And Cosco now runs Long Beach. Not only was Cosco implicated in smuggling assault rifles into the United States, federal officials say Cosco ships are subjects of frequent surveillance and have brought in "all kinds of contraband." It will be decades before we finally assess the damage Clinton did to this country's national security. But he gets a pass.

Clinton's National Security Council was not even asked for comment on whether giving China a base on the U.S. West Coast might compromise national security.

Dubai simply has no such record of hostility toward us. Their port is secure enough that we regularly service our naval vessels there. If put in charge of our port operations, they would still have to operate under American laws. We would still be in charge of port security. All this hoopla is yet another treacherous attempt by the Democrats to undermine the war on terror by alienating an ally.

Yes, the government of Dubai is engaged in things we consider immoral -- like boycotting Israel. That is where the deal chafes me ethically. But if we are doing business with a repressive, criminal nation like China, we do not have the moral authority to judge the actions of Dubai.
