I figure in the last 10 years in my current job as an overpaid, under-worked member of the media, I have earned in excess of one million dollars. So, does that make me a millionaire? Pffft, don't start lining up yet, ladies.
A million dollars just doesn't go as far as it used to -- especially when the government preys upon its citizens like a guppie that feeds on its own young. We have become exactly what our Founding Fathers feared the most -- serfs to the government. Where do politicians get the idea they have the right to tax every human activity -- including dying? And where do people get the idea they are helpless to stop it? Taxes alone have left me a poor excuse for a millionaire.
In terms of personal income tax alone, we are the third highest taxed people in the world, surpassed only by Denmark and New Zealand. There went half my money. Then there are state taxes. county taxes, municipal taxes, "sin" taxes, sales taxes (taxing food is downright immoral), gas taxes, VA has a despised, hefty car tax, taxes on investments, taxes on savings, etc. Some states are now studying whether they can tax the number of miles we drive. Seems we've been so good at conserving fuel -- at their insistence -- that they're losing gas tax revenue.
Through the imposition of the income tax, we have surrendered our economic sovereignty, the control of our money.
Here's a thought for you pinhead liberal war protesters. Do you think the government would be able to wage war if we cut off their income? What do you think would happen if you started voting for people who want lower taxes and smaller government? Oops, there were some three-syllable words in there. I probably lost them.
At any rate, we need a huge tax revolution in this country. About 90 percent of what the government does is unconstitutional. They couldn't do it if we didn't fund it.
I like to keep my blog entries short, so I'll probably drone on about the evil of taxes in further posts as the tax deadline approaches.

The Tax Man Cometh

I like the Linder/Boortz idea of a national sales tax... The Fair Tax. That would put an end to a lot of Washington's crap. And I don't buy the Liberal line that it would hurt the poor. It would help the poor. 90% of Liberals (and most Republicans) haven't even bothered to study the plan. This country could rake in butt-loads of cash, if people would simply wake up, speak up, and refuse to take "No" for an answer. That's our problem... We don't stand up for ourselves. Which creates by default a false sense of superior intellect in the minds of our Leaders.
NO money should flow directly from individuals to the federal government. That is clearly not what the Founding Fathers wanted. If there is any taxing of people to be done, the states should do it. It is just idiotic for the federal government to take our money and then dole it back to the states, meanwhile feeding a gigantic federal bureaucracy to do it. That's like transferring money from one pocket to another and dropping half of it on the ground in the process.

And meanwhile, the Libs (some specific Libs that I know...) scream about the President tossing the Constitution into the shredder because he dared to wiretap a few Terrorists without warrants issued by Judges appointed by Clinton and Carter, all the while asserting that we should take away the property of "The Rich" for the good of "The Poor", in the name of Jesus.
I got the Linder/Boortz "Fair Tax Plan" book for Christmas, so I haven't read it yet, but I am working on it.
I have said for years that we need radical Tax Reform in this country, and the Linder/Boortz plan, from what I know of it so far, looks like a good way to start.

Oh, great. Now I'm taking requests. Just off the top of my head, Linder/Boortz would take us from the frying pan into the fire. I'll have to organize my thoughts before I post.
