Get the Butterfly Nets Ready

Cindy Sheehan said she will be part of the live audience during the president's State of the Union speech to congress Tuesday. Bay Area Congresswoman Lynn Woosley gave anti-war activist a gallery pass late Tuesday, just hours before the planned State of the Union speech. Sheehan was in Washington to protest the president during his national address, but then came word she was invited to see the speech live. A spokesman for Sheehan says she decided to accept the invitation two hours prior to the speech. The spokesman also said that Sheehan will be respectful and listen to the address because she is a guest of a member of congress. Sheehan is expected to fly back to Berkeley Wednesday. She announced over the weekend that she is considering running for Senate against Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
As far as Cindy's political career goes, I say run, run run! Her insane anti-war ravings are exactly what the Democrats need in an election year. Update: Well, this was predictable.
Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier in Iraq who reinvigorated the anti-war movement, was arrested and removed from the House gallery Tuesday night just before President Bush's State of the Union address, a police spokeswoman said.

Sheehan, who was invited to attend the speech by Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D- Calif., was charged with demonstrating in the Capitol building, said Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider. The charge was later changed to unlawful conduct, Schneider said. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Sheehan was taken in handcuffs from the Capitol to police headquarters a few blocks away. Her case was processed as Bush spoke.

Schneider said Sheehan had worn a T-shirt with an anti-war slogan to the speech and covered it up until she took her seat. Police warned her that such displays were not allowed, but she did not respond, the spokeswoman said.

As I said before, run Cindy! Run, run, run!

As for the rest of the address, all I have to say is I hope the Democrats washed their hands well after sitting on them for so long. They must have smelled awfully funky. I couldn't watch it. Since Democrats are incapable of feeling embarrassed, I felt embarrassed for them. They actually cheered when Bush mentioned how Congress had blocked social security reform And they think that will endear them to the nation?

I told my 16 year old son that the Democrats would do precisely that, and I told him that before the speech even started. It got him to watch the speech, though, which is what I wanted him to do. I want him to form his own opinions on things, and this is a good start.

I thought that part of the speech, when the Democrats cheered their sucess at blocking Bush's social security reform was deplorable and shameful. What happened to respect for the office of President, regadless of who holds the office?

I am also glad they got rid of Cindy Sheehan before the speech. I hate to think what would have happened if she had started shouting in the middle of the speech. It would have created a lose/lose situation for the President in the eyes of the press.
