The Book of Doofus
I gave the preachy little anti-Christian series "The Book of Daniel" on NBC a month. Looks like I may have been too optimistic.
This is a show about Daniel Webster, a drug-addicted Episcopal priest with an alcoholic wife. Webster regularly sees and talks with a very unconventional white-robed, bearded Jesus. The Webster family is rounded out by a 23-year-old homosexual Republican son, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer, and a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter. At the office, his lesbian secretary is sleeping with his sister-in-law. Did I mention he sees and talks to Jesus? And Jesus talks back?
After just one episode, five of its seven sponsors have dropped the show. The American Family organization started a boycott and a letter writing campaign, but I doubt that had much to do with it. They're organizing boycotts and protests all the time. This is just a tasteless, sacrilegious, bigoted, badly-written show.
Of course, the Hollywood types are accusing Christians of being hypersensitive and intolerant. I wonder what the reaction would have been if they'd produced a program like this about Islam. THEN they'd know the meaning of the words hypersensitive and intolerant -- and improvised explosive devices.
What's truly dumbfounding is how any of those Hollywood elitists could have imagined that this show would succeed. It just shows how out of touch they are with real Americans.

As usual, the office gang says that I should really watch the show before I decide that I do not want to see it. I'm not going to actually criticize it since I didn't watch it, but here's the thing: I do not have to stick my finger into an electrical outlet to know that I won't like the results!
I am so glad I have never seen it.
I watched it. Aside from the fact that is is offensive to right thinking people everywhere, it's just a lousy show.
