KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Any abuses by U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan are "totally unacceptable," the United Nations said Monday after allegations emerged that American troops had burned the remains of Taliban fighters, then used the scene for propaganda purposes. Asked at a press conference about the alleged desecration, U.N. spokesman Adrian Edwards read a statement issued by the world body in May amid claims at the time that U.S. troops had abused Afghans in detention. "Such abuses are totally unacceptable," he said. "They are an affront to the work of the international community in Afghanistan."At first I was going to whine about the double standard to which we are held. We have to follow the rules, while our enemy follows the rules of neither man nor God. But then I got to thinking that this is the way it should be. We should be held to higher standards. We are, after all, the good guys. We wear the white hats. Our enemy are the bad guys -- they wear the black hats. That is the entire point of this war. What I regret is that the treacherous left in this country and in the international community refuse to admit our moral superiority. And the so-called moderate (pffft) elements of Muslim society refuse to condemn the murderous scum among them. This is another reason to be proud, not to feel frustrated.
