I get the oddest e-mails. A few weeks ago, some woman e-mailed me incensed that I'd left an "anonymous" comment on her friend's blog. Anonymous? I told her that the Lone Ranger was my chosen blogging name and that it told her a lot more about my personality than my real name would. And if I left a "real" name, how could she tell whether I were telling the truth? If you want to get picky, my real name isn't my real name anyway, because I changed my name when I got into broadcasting. I then threw a bit of a scare into her by showing her that with her real name and with a reference she made to the university she was attending, I found her home address and phone number and showed her a satellite picture of her house. For a nominal fee, I could have found out everything about her that is in the public record. That seems to have scared her off because despite saying she wanted to debate several matters with me, I never heard from her again. Then, a few days ago, I got a friendlier e-mail from a woman in Australia thanking me for visiting her blog. Again, she asked for my "real name." Again, I cannot figure out how that is pertinent or informative in any way. And despite her living on a different continent half a world away, I also pinpointed her home address and phone number. OK, that burned five minutes. Two hours of work to go. Move along, people. Nothing to see here.
