BANGKOK, Aug 20 (AFP) - A police officer has been shot dead by suspected Islamic militants in southern Thailand, shortly after Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra finished a two-day visit to the restive region, police said on Saturday BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- A bomb exploded without injuries Saturday at a shop in southern Thailand, a day after the prime minister promised area vendors he'd try to regularly to boost morale amid death threats against anyone working on Fridays -- the Muslim holy day. BANGKOK, Aug 20 (AFP) - One person was killed and 10 wounded by a bomb in southern Thailand's Narathiwat province on Saturday afternoon, police said. The bomb in Sungai Padi was hidden in a motorcycle and detonated by mobile phone, said local police commander Colonel Term Inthasara. As I said, this happens every single day in the three Muslim-dominated southern provinces of Thailand. The impoverished Buddhist and Christian Thais who live in this area don't care about Iraq or global politics. They just want to put food on the table. And because nameless, faceless terrorists are killing those who work on the Muslim holy day, they are having to struggle to even live. And they don't need that as an excuse. They were murdering daily long before they issued that decree two weeks ago. As I have said many times in the past, Muslims cannot live in harmony with any other culture anywhere in the world. They bide their time until their numbers are great enough and then the bloodshed begins. I don't see any "moderate" Muslims expressing their outrage. I don't see any Muslim charities traveling to Thailand to help these poor villagers. I just see bombings and shootings and beheadings...every...single...day.

Just Another Day in the Land of Smiles
I'm at work and have a few free minutes, so I'll just give you a random example of the stories that came in the last few hours, stories we get...every...single...day...from southern Thailand.
