Another Example of Justice in Aceh

Here's another example of the newly instituted justice that has come to the Indonesian province of Aceh, after Islamic separatists fought a 30-year insurgency to end the injustice of the secular Indonesian government.

BANDA ACEH, Aug 26 (AFP) - An Islamic Sharia court in Indonesia's staunchly Muslim province of Aceh on Friday ordered the public flogging of two couples for drinking alcohol and fondling in a public place.

The Takengon Sharia court in Central Aceh district ordered two married men in their 40s and a widow in her 20s be flogged 40 times with a rattan cane later Friday.

Sharia court chief judge Zainal Bakri told the court the three were guilty of drinking alcohol and fondling in a public place when they were caught in a car in Takengon earlier this month.

The other woman, who is single and in her 20s, received a sentence of only five strokes of the cane for kissing one of the men and not drinking alcohol, Bakri said.

I think this is a case of the cure being worse than the disease.
