Menu Malfunctions

First we have this:

DAHLONEGA, Ga. (AP) -- The crackers weren't so bad. Otherwise, 11-year-old Megan Canter didn't have much of an appetite for the minestrone MRE -- or "meal, ready to eat," she whipped up for a military-style lunch at summer camp. "It was disgusting," she said, munching on chocolate cookies on top of a picnic table at the Wahsega 4-H Center, tucked away in the northern Georgia mountains. Flavor aside, the meal was a small way to connect with her dad, Sgt. Chuck Canter, who's serving with the Army National Guard's 48th Infantry Brigade in Iraq.

And then we have this:

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- About 25 men rioted in an Australian immigration detention camp, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, to protest the food they were served, an official said Monday. The five-minute riot Friday erupted after the men were served lamb with eggplant at the Baxter Detention Center in South Australia state, immigration department spokesman David Seale said.
And from our own experience at Club G'itmo, we already know that chicken with lemon sauce and rice pilaf is a form of torture. You think anyone would be happy if the prisoners switched menus with their guards? Or maybe we should embed some journalists in a small room with just a week's worth of MREs. I'd say that would change some attitudes, but I'd just be lying to myself.
