Bongs for Bush

I had an interesting discussion (well, interesting for him) with an aging hippy today. He was carping about the Supreme Court ruling banning "medicinal" marijuana, despite California legalizing it. I pointed out to him that if we had a conservative Supreme Court, that never would have happened. Fortunately, he was not stoned at the time, so I proceeded to tell him that there is nothing in the Constitution about drugs -- marijuana or others. Therefore, any dispute about drugs would have to be kicked back to the states. According to the 10th Amendment, " The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. " Now, how could that be any clearer? Yet liberal politicians turn into total morons when confronted with that simple passage. If it isn't in the federal Constitution, it's the job of the people of a state or their elected representatives to determine the legality of something. So, it would behoove you aging hippies out there to support President Bush in nominating Justices who support the original intent of the Constitution. Believe it or not, Robert Bork would never have voted to keep marijuana illegal over the objections of a state. The words "mainstream," "liberal," "conservative," "moderate," have absolutely no business being in the judicial arena. A good Justice should care about nothing but the constitutionality of a law. And the constitutionality of a law should be based on what? The Constitution!! If I gave the Supreme Court the case of Roe v. Wade, if the system were not corrupted, the Court would kick the case back to the states. Again, the Constitution contains nothing about abortion. So, back to the states it would go. And for the first time since abortion was legalized in 1973, people would actually get to VOTE on abortion. That must be a Democrat's worst nightmare -- actual democracy at work. If we had Supreme Court justices who actually ruled on the original intent of the Constitution, the federal government wouldn't be nearly as intrusive and repressive as it is. And Senators and Representatives wouldn't be nearly as powerful as they are, which is why you will see people like Kennedy, Schuster, Dodd, Pelosi, etc, fight tooth and nail to prevent the Supreme Court from being staffed by justices with real honor, integrity and knowledge of the Constitution. So all you druggies out there, support President Bush's nominees for the Supreme Court and then take your chances with the state process. If you live in places like Alaska, California and Taxachussets, you might have a far better chance than a snowball in hell of getting your way. Oh, by the way, the aging hippy looked like he'd had a religious epiphany. It was probably just a flashback.
