Anybody Hungry?

I had a great meal tonight. A New York strip steak and low carb coleslaw. Prepared with my own hands. It's been more than 11 hours now since Terri Schiavo has had any nourishment. I wonder if she's feeling anything. I just can't believe this is happening. I would expect something like this in China or Vietnam or Burma. But I thought we were a better society than that. If a dog were hit by a car, we wouldn't put it down by starving it to death. It would be considered inhumane to even put a bullet in its head. You'd find that little blond cop from Animal Precinct knocking on your door and you'd be hauled off to jail. For once, this isn't a battle of the right against the left. This is a battle of the right against one bizarre individual who wants to see his wife dead. Where's the left? Where is the National Organization for Women? They're going to take a MAN's word that his wife would have wanted to die? Why aren't they demanding to see a living will? Where are the people who scream that a pair of panties on a terrorist's head is the worst form of torture? Starving to death isn't torture? Where is the ACLU? (crickets chirping) For once, liberals have had a moment of clarity. They realize that if they flaunt their contempt for human life in this case, it's a third rail that will cook them like a chicken fried steak. So they're staying quiet. It's only one person. I mean it's not like saving her life will become a slippery slope that will prevent them from murdering 1.5 million unborn babies every year. They can afford to back off this time. Scott Peterson was just sentenced to death for the murder of his wife and unborn child. We all know that the death penalty in California is a joke. His appeals process will take at least 20 years. And the way the Supreme Court is chipping away at the death penalty, it's quite possible that it won't exist by then. Charles Manson was sentenced to death and every one of his parole hearings is a news event. Where is Terri's appeals process? We don't sentence a killer like Scott Peterson to death unless the jury finds him guilty without a reasonable doubt. I certainly have a reasonable doubt about Terri Schiavo's condition. What would be wrong with her parents selecting a staff of neurologists, speech therapists, physical therapists, etc to examine her? She's never even had an MRI. You'd have to ask her "husband." You'll find him living with his common law wife and two children. He refuses to divorce Terri. He even turned down a million dollars a week ago to turn over her care to her parents. All he would have had to do is sign on the dotted line, collect his money and get on with his life. But he refused. How bizarre is that? It wasn't until seven years after her -- whatever happened to her -- happened before her husband said that she had once told him that she didn't want to be kept alive artificially. Apparently that was enough evidence for the courts to side with him time after time. He was awarded over a million dollars to take care of her, but he's been living off that money and using much of it to try to kill her. She hasn't received physical therapy in 12 years. She hasn't received speech therapy in 12 years. Her family can't take her outside. They aren't allowed to even open a window in her room. She has been mistreated and neglected. And if Michael Schiavo succeeds, she will be murdered. Once again, I thought this country was better than that.
