The Appearance of Conflict
Conservative pundit Armstrong Williams is in deep doodoo. Seems he accepted $240,000 from the education department to promote the Bush administration's No Child Left Behind program. No laws were broken here. There were no shady dealings. Government agencies buy ad time all the time on radio and TV. You can always tell a government ad -- they are the preachy, boring ones. Where Williams went wrong is in not fully disclosing that he was receiving ad money for his promotion. It was a legitimate ad buy. Of course, the Democrats are milking this for all it's worth, trying to make it seem like some huge scandal with the Bush administration bribing a "journalist" (he isn't) to spread their "propaganda." Were the loathsome Al Franken to do something like this on Airhead America, liberals would rally to his defense. It would be a non-issue. But conservatives are not rallying around Williams. Conservatives don't tolerate such behavior. This tells you a lot about conservatives and liberals. Armstrong looks terribly alone. This could be the end of his career.
